BOOT Coffee opts for a future 'of its own'

After more than 50 years of Specialty Coffee full of taste, stories and connection with coffee lovers and coffee farmers, BOOT Koffie - roasters from Baarn is striking out on a special new path. The official decision was made in late 2024:

"BOOT Coffee is never for sale again."

Barend Boot, son of founders Jacob and Marianne Boot, transferred the economic shares of the family business to an independent foundation (ANBI - DIIF foundation). Why? To guarantee one goal: to future-proof and secure the mission and vision of BOOT Koffie. A future in which the important values of fair trade, a vibrant and transparent coffee chain and care for the earth remain central.

A coffee mission without shareholders

What does this mean in practice? In 2025, we will shape this together. We will further organize our business on an equal footing. BOOT Coffee will no longer have an owner at the helm. No shareholders, no investors pulling the strings. Instead, BOOT is "of itself. Everyone who feels connected to our mission - colleagues, coffee farmers, customers, partners, enthusiasts, dreamers and thinkers - contributes to the company's compass in their own way.

We want to be an organization in which people feel at home with the principles of BOOT Coffee, and in which we take responsibility together for what is important: the earth, the relationships our organization has and, of course, the fantastic aromas and flavors of the high quality coffees

A new role for Barend Boot

Barend Boot steps out of the middle, that is, out of the role as owner. He will become a colleague among colleagues. With his experience, he will of course remain involved, but no longer as the person with final responsibility. His wish is clear: everything that has been carefully built up since 1973 - our relationships, knowledge, quality and culture - will continue to exist and grow and prosper. In our own independent way.

Part of a worldwide movement

BOOT Coffee is not alone in opting for a different kind of management. Worldwide, the movement of companies that consider respect and connection with people and planet more important than profit maximization is growing. Think of examples such as Patagonia (USA), Odin and Sleipnir in the Netherlands, BuurtzorgT, Radically Open Security and sustainable plant shop Sprinklr.

We feel at home in this movement.
