What is the best coffee grinder? Electric or manual?

Boot coffee gives tips on coffee grinders for home or small catering business

Drinking coffee is a sensory experience - taste and smell. Grinding the beans in the coffee grinder also ensures that the delicious smell of coffee spreads throughout the kitchen...for every coffee lover, this is a fantastic moment. Freshly ground coffee has an intense aroma and a fantastic taste. Coffee beans that are packaged ground have a chance to diminish their aroma and flavor.

A fully automatic coffee machine has a built-in coffee grinder. If you use a semi-automatic machine at home to make the finest espresso with the finest coffee beans from Boot Koffie, a good coffee grinder is an essential component for (repeated) success.

To make a choice of a hand grinder or an electric coffee grinder, four elements are important: convenience, grind size, noise and cost.

Which coffee grinder will make the best filter coffee and/or espresso?

Important for grinders is the consistency of grind size of the coffee grains (all the same size, even with a coarse grind). So speed of grinding by the grinder is not an argument. Because essential to the balance and repeatability of the taste of your coffee is that the espresso grind is the same. Uneven coffee grinds produce uneven water flow. The water comes into contact with the coffee beans irregularly and imparts the flavor irregularly. The water can also flow past the coffee beans too quickly. Not desirable, because you want to experience the same ratio of beautiful taste and aroma in every cup of coffee.

Coffee grinder: manual or electric

Manual coffee grinders are of medium to high quality and are generally easy to adjust. Specific (very) coarse settings are sometimes more difficult to grind consistently. Manual coffee grinders are often relatively small and compact, they can be held in one hand. A hand grinder has a simple construction so is easy to keep clean (very important - coffee dust left behind gives off a bitter taste to the fresh coffee beans!

Manual grinders are often relatively inexpensive and very durable. A manual coffee grinder produces very little noise.

Electric coffee grinders are available from moderate quality (e.g. cheap, simple leaf grinders - strongly advised against!) to very high quality. The better designed and built electric grinders are very consistent and very easy to use. The expensive electric grinders often have many different settings and sometimes weighing options. Electric coffee grinders make a lot of noise. Purchase price of electric coffee grinders varies from cheap to very expensive, so the choice is essentially determined by the options you want.

Use a coffee grinder like a true barista, at home or in the hospitality industry

BOOT Coffee has been grinding for large and small customers on a professional coffee grinder since 1973. The grind level is important for the preparation of the best espresso or filter coffee. If you want to buy a coffee grinder, a number of arguments are important: cost, grind size, sound and convenience. In our store we sell various coffee grinders that match your ambition level to make the best espresso or filter coffee at home or in small restaurants.
