50 years Boot Koffie
Press information page - For inspiration
In 2023, Boot Koffie will celebrate its 50th anniversary! Enough reason to delve into the history of this fine coffee brand. And: what will the next 50 years look like for Boot and what direction will they take?
HISTORYThe
fascination and admiration for coffee has always been in the Boot family line. This seed was even planted as early as the 18th century] To be precise: the moment Admiral Justus Boot brought home a handful of coffee after a VOC trade mission, and once the coffee was smelled and the first sips drunk, there was no turning back.
Centuries later, the fascination with coffee still lived on. Because in 1960, Jacob Boot, father of current owner Barend Boot, was working as a director at a large coffee roastery. There, his passion for coffee was ignited even more.
During his years at this coffee roastery, which was located in the eastern part of the country, he noticed that very nice coffee lots went through a "normal" blend. A shame, he thought. And so the idea was born to design a small coffee roaster that would allow people to roast their own fresh-smelling arabica beans from one plantation.
The Golden Coffee BoxJacob
Boot developed a small miniature copper roaster and called it: The Golden Coffee Box. A store in Baarn was opened around this roaster and the store of the same name received a lot of publicity. Jacob Boot had big ambitions and dreams, namely he wanted to get The Golden Coffee Box on the American market. But he was too far ahead of his time. Because instead of roasting it himself, people asked him to roast the coffee for them and there was more and more demand for the good coffee sold in the store.
From an early age, Barend Boot was exposed to the special smells of coffee at the roastery where his father worked. That left an impression. Instigated by the coffee virus, he and his brother Willem took over in 1993. Willem Boot finally moved his field to the USA in 1998. It was a great success: Willem became a well-known coffee expert. He brew up a training center for coffee farmers, importers and roasters.
Barend Boot stayed in the Netherlands and, with his passion for coffee and mission to make the world a better place, grew Boot Koffie 's fame in the small market of the world's most special and unique coffees of the highest quality.
HEDENTo-until today, they
work with heart and soul to improve and preserve coffee. An art applied to over 30 coffees from 18 different countries.

And the coffee is naturally climate neutral. Something to be proud of.

FUTURE
Boot Koffie strives for excellence and craftsmanship. But also for fair opportunities for artisan coffee farmers who ensure quality. In this way, they are fulfilling their mission, to create a world where everyone can enjoy coffee for its taste. The dream is to grow and stay present in the market in a healthy way. So that the company and the special story continues to live on.
Improving the World
Boot Koffie has always been at the forefront of coffee sustainability. The way the coffee farmers,(some of whom they have worked with for decades) grow the specialty coffee is progressive. Boot gives high percentages to the farmers in order to create and maintain a fair and sustainable way of growing coffee. In this way, the farmer receives up to 50% more than mainstream Fair Trade coffee prices. So with every cup of coffee you drink from Boot, you too can contribute to a better world!
