Ten years later: back in coffee country Panama

It had been ten years since I was last in Panama. Ten years! Time flies when you are involved with coffee. Since I am also moving into another position in the company, my colleague Rick Maas took over the "purchasing baton" and they love him there! When I announced my arrival in February, something special happened. Not only did I become happy, but the farm families reacted as if an old friend had come home.

"Barend! Finally! You must see our new farm!"

Do you like physical work and do you have affinity with coffee? Are you an involved person with a sense of responsibility and perseverance? Then as a support person in our roastery, you will definitely come into your own!

Because BOOT Koffie is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated colleague who will come and reinforce us during the busiest days. 12 to 16 hours per week with the possibility of scaling up to 20 - 24 hours during vacations, crowds or replacements.

As of today (May 1, 2026) you will see that some coffees have a new price. And you may be thinking: there we go again. We get it. Yet there's more to coffee than meets the eye. Harvests are becoming less predictable due to climate change, and some farmers are losing part of their crops due to extreme conditions. At the same time, demand for good coffee is growing worldwide and transportation costs have risen, keeping purchase prices moving.

What started as a coffee trip ended in a disaster area. Rick talks about floods in Sumatra and the strength of the community around Ketiara.
