Meet the coffee farmer:
Washing station owner (founder & owner): Tesfa Hagos Tesfaye Coffee: Sasaba Washing Station.

Sasaba, featuring coffee from more than 500 small-scale farmers in Guji and Gedeo.
Location: Kercha District, Guji, Ethiopia.

The coffee farmer: Tesfa Hagos Tesfaye founded the Sasaba Washing Station in the fertile Kercha District, south of Bule Hora. More than 500 Gedeo and Guji farmers deliver their coffee cherries to his washing station. They have been growing coffee side by side for generations. Sasaba’s approach to quality rests on three pillars: the coffee itself, fair premiums for exceptional harvests, and genuine care for his farmers. He arranges transportation in emergencies and provides loans during the rainy season. “Sasaba doesn’t grow alone,” he says. That bond earned ten farmers their own lot at the 2018 Operation Cherry Red Auction—a unique recognition of their craftsmanship.

Our Sasaba coffee: The road to Sasaba winds past Yirgacheffe through the cloud-shrouded mountains of Guji and on past Bule Hora. At an elevation of about 2,150 meters, the cherries ripen slowly beneath forest trees and enset trees. This results in a bright and concentrated flavor profile. The beans are dried using the natural method. The result is a vibrant, fruity coffee with notes of raisin, strawberry, and peach, rounded out with a subtle hint of rose.
