Recently we received a message from writer Heleen van Royen that she has fallen for the quality and the beans of BOOT. On her quest to find the right coffee to make the perfect cup at home she wrote a column for the magazine Vrouw entitled "Bak misende" (Bake misery). In her busy schedule, Heleen found time to answer some questions for us about her search for the right beans.

How did you end up at BOOT Coffee?
We went with our new espresso machine to the Koffieschool in Utrecht, where we learned how to make a decent espresso ;-) And that's where we became acquainted with Boot, because we were taught with Boot beans.

Why did you choose BOOT Coffee's beans?
Back from school we tried all kinds of beans, but after many, many tastings we decided to go for BOOT - again - because we liked it best, it had a very full flavor, just like you hope coffee tastes. The fact that the beans are freshly roasted also helps. The date is printed on the packaging, so you know what you are buying. The brand has a sympathetic feel. There is a nice family history attached to it and Baarn is in the region for us, as we live in Hilversum.

What, for you, is the secret to the perfect cup of coffee?
Because I still struggle with the steam pipe, I have developed my own method for making a latte macchiato. I fill a glass one-third full with whole, long-life milk. I heat that for 1 minute and 20 sec in the microwave, at 600W so that the milk is about 65 degrees. At the same time I put some milk in our automatic milk frother. I roll the milk foam, tap out the bubbles, and pour it onto the warm milk with care. In the meantime I have made a double espresso in an iron jug. I carefully empty the jug along the side of the glass so that the espresso sinks to the center, under the foam and mixes with the milk. It looks beautiful and is very tasty. For me not only the perfect cup of coffee, but also a perfect breakfast :)

What is your favorite BOOT coffee?
For now, the Brazil Santos, but of course we are open to new flavors!
