Coffee
How time flies, it's already November! The days are getting shorter and the temperature is starting to drop. In the morning I put on my winter coat and gloves and cycle towards BOOT Koffie in Baarn. Time for a new working day: making people happy with our delicious coffee. It is cold on the bike, so I long for a cup of coffee myself to warm up.
For 20 years, Gesha has been one of the most sought-after coffees in the world. In Panama, the Gesha news struck like lightning, and this variety has been highly favored ever since. She receives record-breaking bids at coffee auctions and is a prize winner with great regularity. Panama was already becoming well-known in the world of quality coffee. When Geisha coffee was discovered in 2004 and successfully grown and sold at high prices by more Panamanian farmers, Panama was finally recognized as a quality coffee country. The origin of this coffee is in Ethiopia, in the Gesha region, where this particular variety still grows.
Our new Limited Edition, the Colombia La Laguna Geisha Organic by Adriana Beltran, is available now! Coffee farmer Adriana is one of the members of the Kachalu cooperative. You can come taste and compare this new coffee along with other filter coffees from our range during the Open Cupping at the Coffee Shop & Bar in Baarn. Besides tasting our finest filter coffees and Limited Editions, we will also show you the roasting process. Stop by to smell and taste. Walk in and join us!
he days when I am working at our cozy location in Baarn, customers sometimes ask me what my favorite coffee is. My standard answer is: the Panama Birdsong! If I could enthuse anyone reading this who likes distinct flavors, I would without a doubt recommend this coffee!
Fortunately, the Panama Birdsong is the coffee of the month this entire month, which means there is a great promotion both online and in-store. Taste it soon and experience a dessert in your cup!
A huge amount of coffee is grown in Brazil. The country is the largest coffee producer in the world. At 59 million 60-kilo bales, the last harvest was a lot higher than the previous harvest. So you would say: plenty of coffee. But Brazil is now also experiencing a major drought. There has been 60% less rainfall. That drought is disrupting the development of coffee bushes and berries for the upcoming harvest.
Our buyer (and quality controller) Rick visited the Sao Francisco Bela Vista Fazenda a good month ago. ("fazenda" means farm). This coffee plantation is where our Brazil Santos Espresso is grown. And here too, the consequence of the drought is very visible.
The purpose of this trip for BOOT is to get an up-to-date picture of how quality and sustainability are being promoted. Of course, we will also be there to taste some lots from the new harvest.
Here we go.... First, also on behalf of Jura, KTC Magazine and Stanley, we thank everyone tremendously for participating in the BOOT Coffee Game. Never before have so many people participated! Darja, under the watchful eye of Barend, determined the winners via a digital draw. We won't leave you in suspense any longer....These are the lucky winners of the BOOT Coffee Game:
