In 2023 Boot Koffie will celebrate its 50th anniversary! Enough reason to delve into the history of this fine coffee brand. And: what will the next 50 years look like for Boot and what direction will they take?

HISTORY

The fascination and admiration for coffee has always been in the Boot family line. This seed was even planted as early as the 18th century] To be precise: the moment Admiral Justus Boot brought home a handful of coffee after a VOC trade mission and once the coffee had been smelled and the first sips drunk, there was no turning back.
Centuries later the fascination with coffee still lived on. Because in 1960, Jacob Boot, father of current owner Barend Boot, was working as a director at a large coffee roastery. There, his passion for coffee was fueled even more.
During his years at this coffee roastery, which was located in the eastern part of the country, he noticed that very nice coffee lots went through a "normal" blend. A shame, he thought. And so the idea was born to design a small coffee roaster that would allow people to roast their own fresh-smelling arabica beans from one plantation.



The Golden Coffee Box
Jacob Boot developed a small miniature copper roaster and called it: The Golden Coffee Box. A store in Baarn was opened around this roaster and the eponymous store received a lot of publicity. Jacob Boot had big ambitions and dreams, namely he wanted to get The Golden Coffee Box on the American market. But he was too far ahead of his time. Because instead of roasting it himself, people asked him to roast the coffee for them, and there was an increasing demand for the good coffee sold in the store....
