Who are you and what is your position at Boot?
Hi, my name is Esther van den Hoorn. Under my signature it says: Assistant CFO/ Webshopbeheer. In practice, that means I work in the finance department, as the right hand of the financial manager. Among other things, I am part of the project team to optimally automate Boot Koffie. It's a nice combination to safeguard the craftsmanship of this company while guiding it into the digital world. With every step we take with that, we have more time for real customer contact and the coffee itself!

Why do you work with coffee?
Ah, great question! It can't be captured in 1 sentence, but I'll try to be brief. As a true Burgundian, taste and quality is very important and when you step into Boot Koffie, you enter a world of like-minded taste and coffee geeks. So I take coffee everywhere with me and my BOOT Stanley Coffee-ToGo cup is my greatest friend. On vacation, a cafetière with Panamaria filter invariably accompanies me, and when I go photographing, a thermos of hot fragrant coffee for in-between meals. Coffee is familiar, versatile, has a social function, it connects, amazes, renews and surprises every time!

What is your most memorable moment as a coffee professional?
In my career at Boot Koffie, there have been a lot of special moments. When I walked in in 2002 (Back then at The Golden Coffee Box on the Teding van Berkhout) I could not have predicted that the coffee world is so diverse and all-encompassing. I got to meet several Coffee Farmers in person and also had a high delegation from Thailand over coffee. I have been along as a Barista trainer to the World Barista Championships in Denmark.

In your opinion, what is a coffee that everyone should try?
All coffees of course! I think taste is very personal and fortunately we also have a choice guide on the web shop. But at home? There I prefer to drink the Panamaria Espresso or the Indonesia Sumatra Organic Espresso brewed with my trusty Quick. Very versatile and also drinkable throughout the day. Whether you make it a double espresso or a creamy lungo.
