Visit Thai coffee farmer from "Pride of Thailand" Doi Chaang to store Boot Koffie

More than 30 years ago, the first arabica coffee bushes were planted on the mountain slopes in northern Thailand. The goal was to offer poor farmers a better life with coffee cultivation. Opium cultivation, imposed by the warlords, caused violence, soil depletion and deforestation in the region. Boot Koffie was involved in the birth of coffee culture in Thailand from that very beginning. The father and mother of owner Barend Boot taught coffee farmers to select coffee, roast and "cupping" coffee, and how good arabica coffee tastes. Mrs. Patchanee and other Thai agronomists came to the Netherlands several times. Every year the new crop of Pride of Thailand coffee was brought into the Netherlands often through Direct Trade. And all organic!

Thus coffee is an indispensable cornerstone in Boot Koffie. This is for 2 reasons: the success for the coffee farmer and the taste.

Coffee farmer and chairman Phitsanuchai Kaewphichai ( Chai for short) was warmly received in the store of Boot Koffie by Barend Boot and his mother. Knowledge, experience and stories were exchanged. What a success the Doi Chai social enterprise means for the farmers' 1,200 coffee families and many farmers in the surrounding regions! The facts speak for themselves. The coffee farmer gets a very good price for his berries and 30 % of the net profit of the enterprise goes back to projects for the farmers such as clean water, nursery, etc. As many as 2 million shade trees have been planted in the region of the coffee fields, also to prevent deforestation. Financed from their own resources.

Fantastic to experience and hear that Thai coffee drinking has so much impact. And also how far and deep the roots of Boot Koffie go back, but mostly focused on the future: continue to import coffee from Thailand to continue to share Thai happiness with our customers and thus continue to support Thai coffee farmers towards better conditions.

Taste of Thailand
The coffee is special ! It has a lot in it from Asian cuisine: spicy, lemongrass, berries, umami, spicy, lemon cake, and something laurel in the aftertaste.

Drink along with this wonderful coffee story ?
